Mano Amiga is an ecumenical, nondenominational Christian organization working primarily in Spanish- speaking countries to help people in need.
Mano Amiga mission workers coordinate volunteer labor to aid in the reconstruction of individuals, families and of buildings. Much of Mano Amiga work is "hands-on" mission work. You sweat and you get dirty and tired and you get blisters!
This work is not for everybody.
But there is opportunity to help even if you can't be a "hands-on" construction volunteer. Cooking, fundraising, medical, sorting, teaching, educational, publicity, recruitment, development and administrative help is also needed.
Our primary mission is in MesoAmerica; along la Frontera on the Texas/Coahuila border and in the states of Yucatán and Quintana Roo in Mexico. In addition, we help support projects in Chiapas, México, and in the Amazon basin of Peru.
Mano Amiga has been doing volunteer work in México for over 20 years and has worked in numerous Méxican states. We have recently added Peru to our missions. Projects in México have included building orphanages, refuge support, medical missions, educational projects, disaster relief, supplying water systems, rebuilding storm-damaged buildings, painting churches, and putting roofs on homes, schools and Bible camps.
Mano Amiga does not have any corporate offices or paid staff. When the need arises, our regular volunteers (about a dozen of them in total) leave their regular jobs to do what needs to be done. And they are joined by volunteers from all over the Americas.
Mano Amiga is incorporated in the United States of America and is recognized by the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization. That means that contributions to Mano Amiga are tax-deductable to the extent allowed by law. Please consult an accountant or tax attorney to understand your particular tax situation in regard to giving to Mano Amiga.
